The Need to Shift towards Biometric Systems

The need for restriction of breach of protection has never been more inevitable. From physical security to confidential documents, everything comes under threat if not given proper diligence. The relatively old methods are becoming less efficient and increasing cost factor. It is practically hard to keep on coping issues such as password changes, ID swapping and lost keys.

Finger prints are still considered as the most favorable options because of a few reasons. A study in Michigan University revealed that the finger patterns tend to remain the same over the years. Through statistical modelling, around 16000 samples were taken over a period of 5-12 years and results made it obvious. It was found that the scars and injuries showed variance otherwise the patterns were found mostly identical. Another reason is user’s exposure to fingerprints which makes it easier to adopt in a workplace environment.

It is not only user effective but organisational benefits work in sequence. It makes confidential data more secure and also reduces the effort involved in administration for user management. The hacking or spying of password fears are also removed which helps in savings. Studies have found that hospitals and other large organisations have found themselves a clear beneficiary of the biometric systems.
